Jefferson City NAACP joins national effort to ensure health care for America's most vulnerable citizens.

"It not Obamacare . . . its care for our kids" In the few minutes it takes to watch this you can understand all you need to know about 'the medicaid expansion in Missouri." Please watch and join us at the Capitol.

Healthy Missouri would like to extend an invitation to each of you for a significant opportunity to make your voice heard on the proposal to strengthen Medicaid in Missouri.

There will be a Strengthening Medicaid Lobby Day at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City on Tuesday, April 16. This event will provide a great opportunity for you to directly communicate with your elected officials and let them know where you stand on Medicaid expansion. At 2:00 p.m. that day, an informational program will be held on the steps of the Capitol featuring comments from leaders on this issue.

Charter busses and transit vans are welcome and special bus parking and shuttle services will be available for your groups. Special accommodations will be made for those with disabilities or needing special assistance.

If you plan to attend, please RSVP at http://www.momedicaidcoalition.org/rsvp with the number of individuals attending from your organization. Thank you.

Please Join Us for the 2013 Jefferson City, MO Founders' Day Prayer Breakfast and Celebration

Jefferson City, MO Branch NAACP
Prayer Breakfast & Founders’ Day Ticket Information

What is the NAACP Prayer Breakfast?  The Prayer Breakfast brings people from public and private life together to celebrate our common spirituality and build bridges through a message of love, prayer and worship. The event is coordinated by volunteer staff each year.
Who attends the event?  Participants have included the Governor, state and federal representatives, mayor, city council members, members of the judiciary, peace officers, county officials,  spiritual leaders and many other elected officials, as well as top business leaders and everyday citizens. In addition, we encourage all attendees to bring a younger family member or younger business colleague, in order to perpetuate and grow our community of faith.
How can you help?  Because the breakfast is meant to be a grassroots community event — the price of individual tickets is just $15, so that all may participate — individual ticket sales only cover part of the cost. Memberships are critical to the event’s success. Please consider supporting the NAACP nationally and locally by becoming a subscribing life member, a renewing member or purchasing a membership for your child.

Reginald Clemons Update

Supporters,

We've all been counting down the days--and yes, it's past June 1. When I visited with Reggie last week, he was unfazed by the three week lapse saying. "I think Judge Manners is looking very carefully over all the evidence. And there's a lot of it."

Let's take our cue from Reggie, grounded in the reality that's he has lived for over 20 years, and continue to be patient and hopeful. When the Justice for Reggie Campaign hears anything from Judge Manner, we'll let you know.

------------------------------------

April 4 is the 44th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's assassination. It is also the 22nd anniversary of the Chain of Rocks Bridge tragedy. The Justice for Reggie Campaign has not planned any formal activities to commemorate that day. We ask that you remember the lives of the young people and their families who were impacted that day. Robin and Julie Kerry lost their lives and will never have the future they dreamed of and that their parents hoped for. As for the defendants in the case: Marlin Gray has been executed, Tony Richardson is destined to spend the rest of his life behind bars; Daniel Winfrey spent 15 years in prison; and Reginald Clemons continues to be relentless in his pursuit of justice.

Let us recommit ourselves to providing young people with all the opportunities to achieve greatness and to rehabilitate a broken criminal justice system that often fails both victims and defendants. Remember Dr. King's words, "the arc of the moral universe ilong, but it bends toward justice." A civilized society has the responsibility of putting its hand on that arc and collectively bending it if we want to see experience a just and peaceful world.
